Armacell presents Armafix Ecolight, elastomeric insulation with an environmentally friendly PET core.

A weak link in the insulation system

Pipe brackets represent a potential weak point in insulation systems. If the pipe is not thermally isolated from the pipe bracket, thermal bridges occur and condensation can form. This leads to increased energy losses, a higher risk of corrosion and expensive secondary damage.

Together with the adjoining Armaflex insulation, pipe supports made of flexible elastomeric foam and load-bearing PET segments offer a high resistance to water vapour transmission and reliable prevention of heat loss.

Excellent technical and mechanical properties

Armafix Ecolight is made using environmentally friendly load-bearing segments from industrially foamed recycled PET bottles.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is lightweight and has a high mechanical strength in combination with residual flexibility and a maximum service life.

Furthermore, PET has very good insulation properties: the material has a closed-cell structure, low thermal conductivity (23°C = 0.033 W/mK) and with a density of 100 kg/m3, PET weighs less than PUR (140 — 145 kg/m3).

The PET segments can be completely recycled at the end of their service life, with all production scrap flowing back into new PET blocks.

PET also has an excellent environmental performance, requiring over 60 percent less energy for its production than PUR and releasing over 80 percent less CO2.
