The CUBO2 Smart CO2 condensing unit by Italian system manufacturer SCM Frigo (a parent company of Beijer Ref) won ‘Refrigeration Product of the Year’ at the UK’s National ACR & Heat Pump Awards 2019 last month.

The event, organised by UK HVAC&R magazine ACR Journal, was held on 24 January at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, UK.

“I think this is very important for the SCM FRIGO team who worked hard to make the CUBO2 Smart a successful product,” commented Nicola Pignatelli, SCM Frigo’s managing director, on winning the award.

The CUBO2 Smart uses advanced technology to ensure that it operates efficiently in transcritical mode. The innovations include CAREL control technology, an inverter-driven compressor, an EC variable speed condenser/gas cooler fan motor, floating suction pressure and head pressure control, an electronic expansion valve with variable superheat control, and management of the high pressure valve and the receiver pressure regulating valve.

The CO2 condensing unit has been installed in the UK at supermarkets including Heron Foods, Morrisons, Co-op and Sainsbury’s, as well as at a cake factory and a boutique hotel. “Sure [the award] can help, but it is more a confirmation that Beijer Ref UK is doing a good job there,” Pignatelli told R744.com.

Operating with support from local training and consultancy refrigeration firm Cool Concerns, SCM Frigo is confident that its condensing units will penetrate the UK market. SCM Frigo is targeting the British market by using “excellent marketing, the best sales structure, [and] local training [from] Cool Concerns,” Pignatelli said.

“[The British market is] very good at the moment. Good results of orders in 2018 and great expectations for volumes in 2019,” he added.
